Hello from Atlanta
Hello all from Atlanta Hartsfield International Airport where we are awaiting the departure of our flight to Amsterdam, leaving in just over two hours.
A quick thank you to those who sent emails regarding the floods in Tucson, which CNN and other news outlets have been busily reporting. This is just normal for the "monsoon," which lasts from late June to early September, and brings us about 95% of our yearly rainfall. There are always crazies who drive into flooded streets and washes, but for most of us, it's just a little wait for the rain to stop and the waters to recede. We never have flooding problems at the house (we live about 1200 ft above central Tucson, which is itself 2400 ft above sea level), and actually welcome the cooling and refreshing rains.
Our flight from Tucson to Atlanta was uneventful and now it's just a matter of surviving the overnight flight. I will post again from Amsterdam.

At home in Tucson, AZ, since 2005, I live with my partner of over 47 years--and husband of six years--Will Feathers. I grew up in New York City (1947-67), earned my BA from CUNY in 1967 and my PhD in English from Indiana University/ Bloomington in 1974. I served on the full-time faculty of the English Department at Virginia Commonwealth University, Richmond, VA, from 1971 to 2004 (33 years), when I accepted an offer for early retirement. Last year (April 2022), we sold our house and moved into an Independent Living Senior Retirement Community in Tucson, where we have made many new friends.
