Monday, day three (of four), in Buenos Aires and I will quote Tim Rice only once and never again:

I want to be a part of BA, Buenos Aires”

Houston to Buenos Aires
I last left the blog as we were waiting for our flight from Houston to BA. So I will turn back briefly to our overnight flight in United’s Polaris Business Class, where we have roomy seats that convert to full-out flat beds. Both Will and I were able to sleep for several hours, after a heavy full dinner, served on linen table covers with real silverware (I had a very thick pork chop cooked just right and very tender, after first courses of salad and smoked salmon; Will had poached salmon as his main course). And for dessert: ice cream sundaes individually prepared at ou seats.
The flight leaves Houston just past 11pm on Friday night and takes ten hours to arrive n BA, at 11am the following day. By the time we gather our luggage and get transferred to our hotel (Cyan Hotel America’s Towers)—in a very busy part of Barrio Recoleta (neighborhood), with lots of shops and restaurants, and even a Starbucks, one block away, it’s already 2pm. We decide to relax for the rest of the afternoon.
As in most Latin countries, dinner is usually served late, around nine 9pm. The hotel concierge suggests a popular grill restaurant, ubiquitous throughout the city, about a 15 minute walk. On this Saturday night the streets are almost deserted because of security for the G20 Meeting. In fact, large areas of the city have been closed for security. We find the restaurant, Las Navidades, after
one or two wrong turns, and enjoy a very traditional Argentine beef dinner (the highlight is the empanadas served as an appetizer).
After dinner, we taxi back to the hotel—taxis are metered and very reasonably priced.
After a long day of travel, we are ready for a good night’s rest before starting to get to know the city.
Photos are uploading extremely slowly today, so for now I will sign off and hope to send photos later.

At home in Tucson, AZ, since 2005, I live with my partner of over 47 years--and husband of six years--Will Feathers. I grew up in New York City (1947-67), earned my BA from CUNY in 1967 and my PhD in English from Indiana University/ Bloomington in 1974. I served on the full-time faculty of the English Department at Virginia Commonwealth University, Richmond, VA, from 1971 to 2004 (33 years), when I accepted an offer for early retirement. Last year (April 2022), we sold our house and moved into an Independent Living Senior Retirement Community in Tucson, where we have made many new friends.
