On the Moselle: Bernkastel-Kus to Traben-Trarbach, Germany
Imagery II arrives in Bernastel-Kus at 6am after an overnight cruise from Trier. I begin the day with a two-hour walking tour of the medieval center of Bernkastel; its sister city, Kus, is on the other bank of the Moselle. The tour guide is an elderly native of the town who speaks English perfectly and knows a great many stories about the town's history.

In the early afternoon, as we continue down the Moselle, we enjoy the pleasant weather and beautiful hillsides, almost able to smell the aroma of the future wines growing on the steep hillsides. We pass through more locks and enjoy vistas of small villages on both sides of the water. In the late afternoon we reach Traben-Trarbach, another double town on both sides of the river, where we will spend the night.
