Monday, 20 November 2017

This is our last night on board ms Marina as we sail toward disembarkation tomorrow in Barcelona.  We spent a lovely day today on the island of Mallorca, and celebrated Will’s birthday in the Grand Dining Room tonight.  I supplied the champagne and Oceania supplied a wonderful chocolate birthday cake with Will’s name in icing.

But now back to the day of missing Gythion and the extra half day and overnight in Malta.

Gythion, Greece

While enjoying our room service breakfast in preparation for our half-day tour in Gythion, we notice that none of the tenders are being prepared for lowering.  The sky is overcast, but the sea doesn’t look too bad. However, the captain soon announces a change in plans.  We will not be able to use the tenders at all. Instead of stopping here we will head directly to Malta, where we will have an extra afternoon and overnight to enjoy the pleasures of its capital city,  Valletta.

The remainder of the day will be a sea day and we take time to enjoy the pleasures of sea life, including a long morning's nap and high tea at 4pm in Horizons, the lounge at the top of the ship on Deck 14.  The fare includes a wide selection of teas, an an array of finger sandwiches, cakes, and scones with clotted cream and jam.

This will be my final posting from on board the ms Marina, but I will continue the daily blog--hopefully at a much faster rate--when we return to Tucson.  I still have many tales and lots of photos to post from the islands of Malta and Mallorca.  Until then, happy travels to all.
