Gibraltar, United Kingdom
The Quest took eight hours to cross the 14 miles from Tangier to Gibraltar over last night. But at least the sun is shining again, although the temperatures are much cooler than they were in the Canary Islands.

Arrecife, Isla Lanzarote, Isla Canaria, Espana
Today the Quest is docked in the port of Arrecife, the small but most important city on the island of Lanzarote. This is the last of the Canaries we will visit before sailing east to Morocco. We have certainly gained a sense of the differences and similarities among these islands.
We both spend a quiet morning on board. After lunch I take the shuttle bus from the cruise dock to a point where taxis can be hired or visitors can walk the short, pleasant passage into the city center. Arrecife is clearly a beach town where almost everything is close to the water.

The town center is primarily concerned with serving tourists: brand-name shopping, restaurants, and bars.
But there are still a few historical buildings of architectural interest.

Although the beaches are farther from the town, the waterfront promenade offers pleasant views of an historic fortress and plenty of seats to enjoy the views. Opposite the promenade stands a row of hotels, bats, and cafes.
