Nafplion, Greece

This morning we visit Nafplion, another port on the Greek mainland, northwest of Athens. This is one of my favorite places in Greece; I spent an overnight here while on a five-day bus tour in May1993, and visited again by cruise ship in April 2015. It is a small city that stands against the sea, backed by mountains, with charming streets and lanes full of restaurants, cafes, shops, and art galleries. We don't need a tour today because the city is very easy to get around.

After our usual breakfast in the Colonnade, served by our usual waiter, Emer from Peru, we take our time boarding a local tender for the short ride to shore.

We enjoy a leisurely walk through the lower town:

Will takes a break in a cafe in the main square . . .

. . . while I continue my walk along the steeper streets to the south.

Public Library

Venetian Fortress

. . .ending up below the hotel I stayed at in 1993.

We are ready for lunch so we return to the tender dock and re-visit the same taverna I had lunch in back in 2015. And just as I remember, again today there is much too much to eat:

A Large Lettuce Salad for Will

Baked Eggplant and French Fries for Will

House Special:  Meatballs in Lemon Sauce for Me

An Equally Large Greek Salad for Me

As We Sail Away from Nafplion We Have Another Good View of My 2015 Hotel

After martini hour we head to the Dining Room where are excellent waiters, Bashar and Velti, present us with excellent "surf and turf."

And so to bed after another beautiful day in Greece.
